Over the past 26 years his responsibilities include research and teaching in the areas of packaging, transportation and logistics, innovative packaging materials and processes, machinery, robotics and sustainability. During his time at Michigan State University, he has obtained significant experience in the field of packaging, transportation and packaging machinery, observed or analyzed numerous packaging systems, authored more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, and participated as a contributing author in six books in the areas of packaging, material handling, and forensics. He has served as a technical and legal expert to various Fortune 500 companies, federal agencies and international organizations like the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, USPS, United Nations, World Bank, European Union and ISO addressing problems related to Packaging and Transportation. He is past Chair of Division 1, D-10 Packaging Committee at American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) and inducted as a Fellow. He serves on the Board of International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) International Safe Transit Association (ISTA), and National Institute of Packaging and Handling Engineers (NIPHLE). He is a Lifetime Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) from and Fellow of ASTM and Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP). He was inducted into the Military Packaging Hall of Fame in 2010 previously awarded the Logistics Achievement Award by NIPHLE and Award of Merit by ASTM for lifetime contributions in developing new packages, test standards and educational materials. He has over 300 publications, conference papers, technical reports and book chapters.
Dr. Singh provides consultation on a contract basis to assist projects related to packaging. He was selected by NASA to review the BioPlex project (Manned Mission to Mars) for advanced life support systems.
